About Us

Butterflies

The Texas Aquatic Conservation Alliance (TEXACA) is dedicated to providing support for the San Marcos Aquatic Resources Center in safeguarding the unique, spring-fed aquatic ecosystems of Central Texas. By focusing protection efforts on critical spring runs and upper river environments, we strive to ensure the survival of vulnerable endemic species that rely completely on stable, clean, and continuous springflow.

Our Mission

We support the purposes and objectives of the San Marcos Aquatic Resources Center (SMARC), a component of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, to promote conservation of native wildlife and habitat, especially threatened, endangered, or otherwise imperiled species.

Strategy

Our five-year strategy connects to our mission by using acquired funding to support five distinct activities:

  1. Assist the staff of the SMARC in their mission.
  2. Partner with organizations that can contribute to the advancement of the SMARC's mission.
  3. Educate the public, in conjunction with the SMARC, about local and national environmental concerns, needs of wildlife and habitats, and conservation practices.
  4. Promote conservation outreach and community use of public lands and other resources.
  5. Support the SMARC’s research needs through project funding and grant management in collaboration with universities and other organizations that specialize in these areas.
